About Christie Block
Christie Block, MA, MS, CCC-SLP is a licensed and board-certified Speech- Language Pathologist who specializes in the testing and treatment of speech differences and disorders, particularly for adult professionals, including speech/accent, public speaking, and voice. She also has expertise in the diagnosis and treatment of stuttering and swallowing disorders.
Christie has more than 15 years of experience helping people from a wide variety of linguistic and cultural backgrounds in business, outpatient, rehabilitation, hospital, home, and academic settings. Client languages include the following: Chinese, French, German, Greek, Japanese, Polish, Romanian, Russian, Serbo-Croatian, Spanish, Thai, Turkish, and Vietnamese, as well as regional non-standard English dialects.
Christie works directly with a number of otolaryngologists (head & neck surgeons) in Manhattan, including Drs. Jordan Stern, Stacey Silvers, Jamie Koufman, David Godin, and Jonathan Aviv. As a voice and swallowing specialist, she performs state-of-the-art diagnostic testing for these physicians, including videostroboscopy, acoustic analysis, flexible endoscopic evaluation of swallowing, and pharyngeal-esophageal manometry. Christie also teaches speech and voice at New York University.
Christie holds a Bachelor's degree in Asian Languages and Literature (Mandarin Chinese), and two Master's degrees in Linguistics and Communication Disorders. She is a member of the American Speech-Language-Hearing Association, the New York Voice Study Group, Extramural Laryngeal Rounds, the Columbia University-based Working Group on Gender, and the World Professional Association for Transgender Health.
